Key Features of Modern Homebrew Kegerator Systems
Investing in a purpose-built draft beer fridge streamlines your packaging day and elevates your serving setup:
- Flexible Tap Configurations: Choose from single, dual, triple, or quad-tap stainless steel fonts depending on how many different craft beers, ciders, or sparkling waters you want on tap simultaneously.
- Maximised Internal Capacity: Modern models like the Series X fit up to 4 x 19L Cornelius ball lock kegs (or a 50L commercial keg), while large-capacity fridges like the Series X.Plus hold up to 8 x 19L kegs.
- NUKATAP Forward-Sealing Technology: Modern font bundles feature stainless steel NUKATAP taps that reduce first-pour foam, prevent sticky internal tap shuttles, and protect your beer against air exposure.
- Precision CO2 & Temperature Control: Digital temperature controllers keep your beer at exact serving temperatures (down to -2°C), while dual-gauge CO2 gas regulators ensure steady carbonation levels from start to finish.
Frequently Asked Questions: Kegerators & Draft Beer in NZ
How many 19L Corny kegs fit inside a KegLand Series X kegerator?
A standard KegLand Series X kegerator easily fits up to 4 x 19L Cornelius (ball lock) kegs inside the main chamber at once, alongside a gas cylinder positioned on the rear external bracket or inside. Alternatively, it can hold 1 x 50L commercial DIN keg or 1 x 30L commercial keg plus smaller homebrew kegs.
What size CO2 gas cylinder do I need for a kegerator?
Most homebrewers pair their kegerator with a 2.6kg or 6.0kg refillable CO2 gas cylinder. A 2.6kg gas cylinder will generally carbonate and dispense approximately 180L to 200L of beer (around 8 to 10 standard 19L kegs), making it an ideal size for home setups.
Why are my kegerator pours coming out too foamy and how do I fix it?
Excessive foam is usually caused by unbalanced draft lines, warm tap fonts, or incorrect serving pressure. To fix this:
- Ensure your beer line length provides sufficient flow resistance (e.g. 1.8m to 2.2m of 4mm ID EVABarrier line per tap).
- Set your CO2 regulator to standard serving pressure (approx. 10–12 PSI at 2°C–4°C).
- Ensure your font fan or insulation tube is blowing cold air up into the stainless steel tower to keep taps cold between pours.
What is the difference between rear-sealing and forward-sealing NUKATAP taps?
Older rear-sealing taps drain beer from the front, leaving the internal body exposed to oxygen. This dries out leftover beer, causing sticky tap handles and harbouring wild bacteria. Forward-sealing NUKATAPs seal right at the front of the tap spout, keeping beer sealed in liquid form behind the tap shuttle so it never dries out or gets stuck.
How often should I clean my kegerator beer lines?
We recommend flushing your draft beer lines with a specialized alkaline line cleaner (or PBW) every 2 to 4 weeks, or whenever you change over a keg. Flush thoroughly with warm water afterwards, followed by a no-rinse sanitiser like StellarSan, to prevent beer stone buildup and keep every pour tasting crisp and clean.
