Brewing Starter Kit FAQs

Should I choose the Basic or Standard Starter Kit?
The Basic Kit is designed for those who already have bottles and ingredients, featuring a clip-on lid fermenter and core measuring tools. The Standard Kit is our most popular choice for beginners because it is truly "all-in-one"—it includes a superior screw-top barrel, your first batch of ingredients, and 30x 750ml PET bottles so you can start brewing the day it arrives.
How much beer can I make with these kits?
Our starter kits are designed for a standard 23-litre batch. This typically produces about 30 x 750ml bottles or roughly 60-65 standard 330ml bottles. It’s the perfect size for most NZ homebrewers, offering a great balance between effort and reward.
What is included in the "Stainless All-Grain" Starter Kit?
This is our premium setup for those who want to skip the extracts and go straight to professional-level brewing. It includes the BrewZilla 35L Gen 4 electric brewery, an Ss Brew Bucket 2.0 (brewer's grade 304 stainless steel), and all the equipment needed to mash, boil, and ferment like a craft brewery.
Do I need to buy anything else to get started?
If you buy the Standard Starter Kit, you only need water and a kitchen to get going! If you choose the Basic Kit, you will need to add a "Beer Kit" (ingredients) and bottles to your order. We also recommend having a good quality no-rinse sanitiser like StellarSan, which is included in most of our bundles.
Can I upgrade my kit later if I want to try kegging?
Absolutely! All our fermenters are compatible with the next steps of your hobby. You can easily add a Beer Kegging Starter Kit later to move away from bottling, or look into Pressure Brewing with a FermZilla upgrade if you want to speed up your fermentation times.
How much space do I need for a homebrew setup?
Not much! You just need enough room for a 30L fermenter (roughly 40cm wide and 60cm tall) in a spot out of direct sunlight with a relatively stable temperature. A kitchen bench or a sturdy table is perfect for the initial "brew day," and a quiet corner or closet is ideal for the 1–2 weeks of fermentation.
