Freestyle Kohia Nelson is a botanical blend with unique flavours of New Zealand grown crops.
Kohia Nelson is a passionfruit blend, which delivers a sweet tropical character reminiscent of passionfruit/mango with great citrus complexity that leans towards pink grapefruit. It can easily stand up to a single hop beer and really shines in juicy, hop forward styles. It isn’t over-the-top passionfruit, but rather a deeply complex tropical fruit character.
This blend combines Nelson Sauvin and Rakau with New Zealand passionfruit. The passion fruit was sourced from a brilliant NZ restaurant supply company. Kohia Nelson requires a bit of a different (and complex) production process. The passion fruit is dried, the seeds removed and then blended with the hops prior to pelleting.
Brewers typically use this unique blend to add massive, intense fruit-forward character to hazy IPAs and pale ales.
Internal dry hop testing found it to have a potent sweet passion fruit aroma, with (in a test West Coast IPA) a nice crisp, dry, mega-hoppy flavour.
