Zinc - 100g Zinc - 500g

Zinc is the “bare essential” yeast nutrient. In an all-malt beer a brewer should need little else for yeast nutrition as the wort supplies all the necessary mineral requirements, except zinc. Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate is a simple and effective way to give yeast the nutrient it needs without increasing the amino nitrogen content of wort.

Only a tiny amount is required and added to the boil - approx. 1g per 1000 litres of wort. Too much will cause the yeast to produce excessive by-products and cause off-flavours, and can inhibit yeast growth.

Due to the very small amounts of zinc required per brew, it is difficult for home brewers to measure out the required amount at such small quantities and might be better using our Yeast Nutrient which contains zinc. For this reason, zinc is more suited to craft breweries doing larger batches.

Mix Zinc Sulfate Heptahydrate with water and add to kettle 10-15 min before end of boil.
